How many icons are on your desktop?

How many icons are on your desktop? Last time we asked the question we discovered that many of you are quite minimalistic with your icons, some with none at all, and others with the bare essentials. But not everyone. A huge percentage of commenters had dozens or even hundreds of icons. How do they all fit?

This time I’d like to get a better of the proportion of tidy versus messy desktops we have out there. Just choose the answer that best sums up your desktop as it appears today.

Do you have any hints or tips about how you keep your desktop tidy, or how you you make the most of that particular piece of digital real estate? Do any of you automate the process? Let us know how in the comments. We’re dying to know!

    I save everything to my desktop and it gets so crowded I just hide everything by default. So technically I have zero icons on my desktop, even though there are really probably about 300 files in there right now :D

    Isn’t that where you’re supposed to file everything?
    At a quick glance I currently have about 50+ icons on my desktop rigth now – I just find it’s the shortest path to my items/folders. In order to contain my desktopitis I sometimes create shortcuts to my items and place the shortcuts on my desktop.

    I stash files I’m working on, as well as things I want to make sure I remember, on my desktop. Works good since OS X saves screenshots to the desktop by default. I’ll then clean it off each night, and start with a clean slate, er, desktop each morning.

    This question is ridiculous: OF COURSE I NEED A SCROLL BAR FOR MY 1000 ICONS!!

    Just kidding, I only have 6 icons :)

    - SGN (link to my phone resources)
    - Recycle Bin
    - Images (folder for exported images from PS)

    I have 8 icons to main source folders. Always use original background on mac and solid color bg on pc.

    4. Mac HD, Bootcamp partition, two recent screenshots. Usually it’s only the former 2 though, and I never really use them ;)

    I have no icons on my desktop anymore as I’m making some tut videos, and taking the advice from Jeffery way in his tut.

    Before that, I had too many to know what I was doing.
