Next Tuts+ Site

We’re planning our next few Tuts+ sites, and would love your opinion and advice on which topics you think we should cover! We’d be really grateful if you could take a minute to answer our quick poll and share your thoughts…

Have Your Say

We’ve been considering lots of different ideas for our next Tuts+ sites over the past few weeks, and wanted to also ask the opinion of our awesome community!

A selection of different concepts are included in the poll to the right, along with the option for you to submit your own ideas as well.

The important thing to note is that these are just ideas. Some of these are close to making our final cut, and others aren’t… We’d love to hear what you think, to help guide our decision.

Thanks for taking the time to offer your suggestion — I can’t wait to see what you have to say!

Win a 6-Month Tuts+ Premium Membership

Our poll will be running for the next couple of weeks, and we’ll be choosing one respondent at random to receive a six-month Tuts+ Premium membership!

To be entered into the giveaway, just leave a comment on this post to go into a bit more detail about your site suggestion. We’ll choose one comment at random to win the Tuts+ Premium membership when the poll ends.

Best of luck!

Hands down I’d have to go with Gamedevtuts+. It’s a topic open to a lot of tuts, articles and etc. And honestly, it’s what I’m mostly looking for right now.

  2. Nikola on the 9th May

Both writing a game development would be awesome.

  3. Simon Baasch on the 9th May

    Hi!
    i would love a mactuts+ section!

  4. Jordan Parker on the 9th May

    Freelancetuts+ just sounds amazing.

  5. Daniel Lucas on the 9th May

I think a Freelance Tuts+ would be a great idea. If you don’t know what you’re doing getting started can be really tricky, and organization, motivation etc… can be a stumbling block as well.

Gamedev tuts+ could be another good site, I’ve always been interested in how video games are made and where to start when planning to make a game

  6. wye on the 9th May

I would love to see businesstuts+ with topics like running a startup, social media marketing, entrepreneuralism and all that jazz. Can’t wait for posts from mr. Collis Ta’eed. :)

    • Tiago Castro on the 9th May

Yuup, it seems to me that’s the one that makes more sense ;)

  7. Joe Casabona on the 9th May

My immediate thought is that gamedev+ would lend itself best to the Tuts+ Network (and really lend itself to premium tuts. It’s already in a good niche as far as software development (maybe that could even be a general one- building full SW systems from start to finish), though it would be cool to see the network expand into other markets. I’m curious to see the thoughts behind productivitytuts+ and techtuts+.

  8. Ricky on the 9th May

    Another vote for Gamedevtuts+

  9. Moritz on the 9th May

Yes! Gamedevtuts+ sounds amazing, especially since there’s a broad range of things to teach (or get taught) about.

  10. David Appleyard on the 9th May

Hey Guys — If we were to look at Gamedevtuts+, which types of games would you be most interested in learning about? Desktop? Console? Web?

    • Christopher Geary on the 9th May

I would say more Desktop than anything else, there are already so many tutorials out there for the Web. Plus you could probably get some web based game tutorials into the “nettuts” or “activetuts” sites.

Currently, the only good website I know of for Game Dev is: http://gamedev.net, but it confuses me slightly, tuts+ websites are just brilliant, so easy to follow..

    • Jordan on the 9th May

Id have to say Web / Desktop in first place followed by Console games.

The Web games could cross over to your current Tut+plus network quite well

Desktop games would be good for indie developers who are trying to make it.

    • Alderis on the 9th May

Desktop would be a good solid start.

    • Henry Hoffman on the 17th May

I’d be interested in learning transferable game dev skills. With so many cross-platform engines available, I’d think platform specificity may be becoming increasing irrelevant.

For example when I first started out I could have done with a tutorial that succinctly explained basic vector math.

  11. Baris Unver on the 9th May

    Definitely FreelanceTuts+!

  12. Guy on the 9th May

    Gamedevtuts+ would be great.
Sewing together all the amazing things we see here every day into something strong, beautiful and interactive.

    cheers.

  13. P on the 9th May

Finance tuts! The current economy isn’t so great and most of us think about money more than we’d like to. Not only the lack of them is an issue but investing and growing your savings can also give you an headache with so many options available.

Plus, everyone uses money, the site will have a huge audience and gather people outisde of the usual envato (creative industry) crowd.

Financetuts it is, come on guys, I’d really like to see it.

  14. bluroon on the 9th May

    no software dev :(

  15. Jordan on the 9th May

    Software Dev Tuts+

so many handy little programs i think of to help productivity but i cant program them so my vote is for this.

  16. Jack on the 9th May

@David Appleyard I think, mobile games would be interesting especially for Android and iOS.
In addition, it would be great, if there is “Java Play! framework from scratch” course on netTuts+

  17. Jesper Lindström on the 9th May

I definately have to say Gamedevtuts+. All your sites contain high quality tutorials and I’d really love to see some equally good guides about game development. It’s a topic I’m really longing to learn more about.

  18. Tito Pandu Brahmanto on the 9th May

I vote for Gamedevtuts+, because that is my dream to become Game Developer and Designer.

  19. Rawaf on the 9th May

I hope you look for launch Joomlatuts+ site , because I saw Joomla script is best CMS script, and there are not good websites add professional tutorials as your team, I liked wptuts+ site so I like you launch for Joomla.

I hope support my idea from members, visitors and tuts+ webmaster

    best regards

  20. Josh Read on the 9th May

My vote is for health tuts. You guys have such great content and maybe something would cause me to get off my butt, away from the computer, and working out.

  21. Paul Flavius Nechita on the 9th May

    Gamedevtuts+ for me too.

  22. Afiqfaidhy on the 9th May

I suggest you guys go to gamedevtut because I personally think that game development area is one of the most interesting area to be discussed and learn.

  23. SOHEIL ( Roodper ) on the 9th May

Game tut would be amazing , but how about mac tut ?

  24. bdt466 on the 9th May

    Writingtuts+
    Freelancetuts+
    Financetuts+
    Gamedevtuts+
    Fashiontuts+
    Businesstuts+
    Healthtuts+

These are the ones, in my opinion, that fit your brand best, have a place in the market, and would affectively cater to your current and potential user-base.

To dissect it a little further:
I’d say Gamedevtuts+ has the largest potential, but could fall on it’s arse easily without proper management (windows.appstorm anyone?).

Freelancetuts+ would infringe on the already established Freelance Switch. It’d take a fair bit of juggling to operate both smoothly. That’s not to say it’s not possible by any means.

I’d love to see what you lot could do with Fashiontuts+. Though if I’m honest, I’ve no idea what the market’s like for that kind of thing. But not to be discounted is that if it were to succeed, it would almost entirely consist of new users.

Healthtuts+ is an interesting one. Given the computer-centric world we live in today, this could be a real chance to do good.

As for Businesstuts+ and Financetuts+; the only thing holding either back is getting access to talented, knowledgeable writers. Both are inherently dreary subjects, and it takes someone special to negate the odds.

  25. Steve Robillard on the 9th May

I votd for tech thinking that this might cover things like DIY and electronics projects.

  26. Brian Whiting on the 9th May

A Freelancetuts+ would be great with the fact that when I started working freelance it was hard and difficult to get myself started because of the lack of actual resources. When starting out it would be great to have help and that would be the site people would go to for it.

A Gamedevtuts+ would be better at times with the growing number of 3D designers and game developers that are trying to come out. Most people don’t have much help or resources to help with the way to make a game.

So if you guys made both of them then you would help both the designers and then also the game designers. Helping both of them and also freelancetuts+ would help both in a way of how to start a business and turn it into something big and sustaining for both them and their families.

  27. Selva on the 9th May

    Gamedevtuts+ ..

Reason – Its the dream for most of the web geeks to develop a game for desktop or as an app.

    Or what about Appdevtuts+ ??

its for both android and ios..

  28. Tom Conte on the 9th May

Maybe a Drupaltuts+? This would be really great.

Or a kind of CMStuts+, grouping others CMS (Drupal, EE etc.)

    • Alex on the 10th May

      +1

  29. András Dóczi on the 9th May

I’d love to see either a Mactuts+ or a Freelancetuts+ site. Or an iOSdevtuts+ even if there are other sources to learn from.

  30. ossama on the 9th May

    Hello

    I would love BusinessTuts+ / EntrepreneurTuts+

  31. Luis Montiel on the 9th May

Gamedevtuts+ should definitively be the new tuts site. That skill is becoming more frequent in job applications.

  32. BPorter on the 9th May

gamedevtuts+ seems to match up with the style and format of tuts+. The other ones would be branching out too far maybe.

  33. Hannah Warmbier on the 9th May

I’d rather see Mactuts+ as something you could integrate into Mac.Appstorm instead of a separate entity. One Mac blog to follow is better than two!

Out of the list, though, the ones I’m most interested in are writing, freelance and productivity. I’m throwing my vote in for the latter. :)

  34. mKrukowski on the 9th May

    gamedev+ will be good

  35. MSFX on the 9th May

game dev and finance cause i’m a finance geek like JW =)

  36. Carlos Florencio on the 9th May

I suggest gamedev because I personally think the game development area is one of the most interesting area to be discussed and learn.

  37. Mário on the 9th May

    Hi guys,

I really like your tuts. Very useful material, and really nice “teachers” around . I check nettuts and webdesingtuts everyday!

    SoftwareDevTuts+ (C++, Java, ..), thats my hope!

However, GameDevTuts sounds really good too.

    Let’s see. :)

  38. Filip on the 9th May

Definitely FinanceTuts with stock market tutorials :)

  39. Joni Chandra on the 9th May

I really wanted to develop games way long long time ago, but the procedure is just available that publicly.

Furthermore, it’s good if you can include the smallest, tiniest details into the tutorial and teach us as if we’re the most noob game developers that exists out there.

  40. nimbleo on the 9th May

Wow! Looks like the comments thread is blowing up…you’re getting some great feedback guys – definitely points that can be considered.

My vote goes to Freelancetuts+ – I believe it would definitely help those thinking of starting their own business, becoming authors or refine and improve on their existing businesses.

  41. Jitendra Shah on the 10th May

All of them! Except for Mactuts+

    ;)

  42. Hector Lee on the 10th May

Definitely GameDevTuts+. I’m just concerned what the focus would be on? Coding? Design? Sound Design? There’s so much to cover. How would the content of the site be focused without overlapping with the other sites.

  43. Matt on the 10th May

GameDevTuts+ Because games are awesome and creating your own is even more awesome

  44. Razvan Cranganu on the 10th May

It will be nice to have a FireworksTuts+ site. There are lots of people that prefer to use Adobe Fireworks instead of Photoshop, so FireworksTuts+ sounds like a winner.

  45. Alex on the 10th May

It would be so great if you create one of listed below tuts+
    Scripttuts+
    jQuerytuts+
Thanks for great work of Envato team!

  46. Ricky on the 10th May

    How about some ZBrush+

  47. Kwame on the 10th May

Guys, just go with GameDevtuts+ already lol!…I know it’s what most people want to learn now. I have seen many people ask about Game Dev tutorials in your comments on the tutsplus sites and envato notes.

Besides, it will help 3docean, graphicriver and audiotutsplus to grow further because students will buy things they need to build their games from these marketplaces.

    It will complement 3 marketplaces.

All the people asking for a softwaredevtuts+ site should just vote for techtuts+ as I am sure it will cover software dev.

    Cheers Guys!

  48. fatih on the 10th May

None of them; AndroTuts+ or MobileDevTuts+ will be great.

  49. luis on the 10th May

    all related with android development

  50. lawrence77 on the 10th May

    i voted ‘others’

dotnettuts+ which cover every bit of the dotnet framework, sqlserver, ado.net, wcf, wpf, silverlight, etc.,
cmstuts+ which cover every cms from wordpress, drupal, joomla, dotnetblogengine, dotnetnuke etc., :D

where is Herbtuts+ in options :D

A tutsplus forum will be awesome too

  51. Dave on the 11th May

I’m kind of surprised at all the support for Freelancetuts+, when Envato already runs FreelanceSwitch. All they’d have to do is get the quality of content there out of the gutter. Seems like a waste of resources and a missed opportunity to expand.

  52. Trenton Johnson on the 11th May

One thing nearly everyone in the Envato community shares is being a Freelancer. FreelanceTuts would be an AMAZING asset to EVERYONE, rather than just a faction of the community. So excited to see what’s coming!

    @trentmjohnson

  53. Joseph Marley on the 13th May

Adding gamedevtuts+ would be a great addition to the envato community.

  54. Mohamed El Sharnoby on the 15th May

    I’d like the FreelanceTuts+ .. it’d be great :D

  55. Bassam Mamdouh on the 23rd May

i think will be amazing if the next tut+ site work with new strategy like (give and take) help people to share them experience with each other
i make tutorial in something i really good at and then every one use my tutorial give me points so i can use this points to view the people tutorial and the game continue (give and take)

    :)
