KL Wrap-up – It’s Been a Blast!

We’re coming to the end of our time in Kuala Lumpur. :( This afternoon we had our last buffet lunch, and tonight we celebrate our time with a farewell dinner at one of Malaysia’s top restaurants. Over the next few days – after a bit of R&R – we’ll all be flying home.

It has been great to spend face-to-face time with the rest of the team. The talks and team meetings over the two weeks have been amazing. I’m going home with a lot of things to put into action. And I’m not alone. Collis has just admitted to creating a 50-page to do list while here!

Work has been interspersed with rugged exercise sessions. Many of us don’t work out enough, and found it hard to keep up with Lance.

But it hasn’t been all work. The food here in Kuala Lumpur has been amazing – and often adventurous. We should give a prize to the bravest diner, but it would be hard to pick. Some team members have eaten frogs legs, stingray, tortoise jelly, durian, unidentified meat, and century egg. On an unrelated note, some of us have also felt a little sick while here…

Some have enjoyed the pool and gym here in the hotel, while others have ventured further afield. In their free time we’ve visited the local markets, the aquarium, the bird park, the Petronas Twin Towers, and the jungles up north.

Two of our most successful events were the visit to the Kuala Gandah Elephant Sanctuary, and our Community Meetup which Carmen covered in a recent post. Meeting Marketplace authors and Tuts+ readers was a great experience, and probably more fun than riding an elephant.

I’d like to say a huge thank you to Collis and Cyan and the board for putting this event on, and to many in the team who worked tirelessly to make it happen. I can assure you that it has been worth it!

We’ve been so busy here that there hasn’t been much time to update our Flickr stream. I’m sure that over the next week or so many more photos will be posted there, so keep checking if you’re interested.

So as we all head home and get back into our usual routine – and start acting on our long to do lists – it won’t be long until we start dreaming of the next meetup. I wonder where it will be…

Europe has a strong chance, Alex, but it’s a while off yet.

Had a wonderful time (except the push ups) and met some truly great people. We also learned a lot and brainstormed some great ideas. Thanks again to everyone for being so awesome!
