'Girl On Bench' by PhotoDune Author 'elanathewise'PhotoDune, Envato’s latest marketplace has been in development for almost a year now. Today we’re proud and excited to announce an important milestone in PhotoDune’s development, we’re now in public beta! This means that anyone can now access PhotoDune. That’s right, you no longer need to be an existing marketplace member to access our stock photography site.
PhotoDune offers great quality stock photography at buyer-friendly prices! As part of the Envato Marketplace network it already has extensive authoring and community infrastructure along with a huge network of buyers, so there’s plenty for new authors interested in selling stock photography to get started with. If you’re new to our network or want to start selling on PhotoDune, read about how to get started. Or why not take a look at some the popular files.
PhotoDune is still in a public beta, meaning that you may encounter small bugs or unexpected behavior here and there, but the site is pretty much ready for primetime! If you do happen to encounter any unexpected behavior though, take a screenshot (if appropriate) and let us know at Support!

I love that this is finally launching! I have a few key problems with it as it stands now, however:
1. The file saturation is incredibly high. The site is still in beta and there are 223,634 photos for sale. How can we expect our new items to do well with this level saturation?
2. On a similar note, this saturation is also limited to just a few authors. I was personally excited to launch with my measly 7 approved photos, but there are authors with between 10,000 – 30,000 photos!
3. The homepage featured area currently consists of 21 doctor photos from 1 author. Shouldn’t you be filtering the featured area to include maybe 1-2 photos from each author that has new files?
Overall I’m super excited for this site to get up and running but I feel like the organizational structure needs to be rethought for this type of marketplace. Envato needs to find a way to make the site feel less saturated—it’s overwhelming to the customers and discouraging to the authors, which should be labeled “photographers” IMO.

Regarding the homepage saturation we agree it’s an issue and we’ll be addressing that soon by setting limits on the number of photos per author on the homepage at any one time, but we also need to look at other ways to promote our authors as it won’t be long before we’ll be approving 1000′s of photos per day! spoiler: homepage redesign is just around the corner
We still have the weekly feature and free file of the month that we’ll be using to promote authors both big and small which is a great way of getting exposure outside of the New Item area.
BTW nice portfolio on PhotoDune so keep them coming!
