Our roving WordPress Evangelist Japh Thomson spent a sunny long weekend on Australia’s Gold Coast last weekend to be one of the speakers at WordCamp. While in Queensland he also enjoyed the water, the shops, and the casino – though he may have been just sight-seeing.
Japh spoke on the first day of the conference about code quality and best practices. Unfortunately due to a technical glitch most of the video from Day 1 has been lost, including Japh’s talk. You can find Japh’s Gold Coast slides at japh.com.au/wcgc2011.
I was able to find the video of his talk at WordPress Melbourne earlier in the year, though about a different topic.
For more about Japh, stay tuned for next week’s Meet the Staff.

After watching that video I have to apologise to Japh. I’ve always pronounced his name Jaff instead of Jafe. At least I’m not alone!
Haha! Certainly not alone
Great job, Japh! I wish we could have seen your laser-etched MacBookPro from the camera angle, I’m sure the audience got to enjoy it however.
Thanks!
And while it’s not the best photo of me ever, here’s a better angle for you from WordCamp Melbourne: http://melbourne.wordcamp.org.au/files/2011/03/41-Japheth-Thomson-WP-as-a-Development-Platform-2.jpg
That angle really shows off your engraved MacBook Pro!
Great inspiration of how to convince people that WordPress is not just a blogging platform anymore.
Thanks, Wim! That’s really what I was hoping for. Just because it started as a blogging platform doesn’t mean that’s what it will always be, right?
Just a quick update, my talk from WordCamp Gold Coast 2011 has finally be posted to WordPress.tv!
