Beautiful Blender Renders licensed under CC
Last week we covered how you can place Watermarked Previews from the Envato Marketplace into Item Previews. Today I wanted to point authors to a few Creative Commons resources for getting beautiful 3D Renders.
As you may know there is a kick-ass 3D Rendering package that is completely open source called Blender. It’s pretty amazing, and if you’re interested check out the 2011 Blender Showreel! You can also check out our Best of Blender tutorial series on Cgtuts+ if you’re interested in learning the software.
Thanks to the Blender Open Movie Projects initiative, there are four movies available licensed under the Creative Commons – including artwork. So if you’re looking for some 3D Renders to use, these projects are a source of beautiful imagery. Of course it’s also really worth taking some time and watching the movies themselves. Sintel in particular is fantastic!
All four movies are licensed under Creative Commons Attribution licenses, so make sure to attribute any images you use correctly in your item descriptions and live previews. You can find information on how to do so on the sites themselves.

They’re some amazing Creative Commons images. All the way from cute to creepy!
I remember the splash Elephants Dream made when it first came out – the first “major” collaboration to be done with open source software (Blender and Gimp) – though I’m not sure if it was rendered with Creative Commons software. I still watch it sometimes with my youngest son.
Really good work Collis – Elephants dream looks very creepy!
There are also many free stock sites on the net. Just use your favorite search engine
To be more clear, I can use a video from Big Buck Bunny to use it in my VideoHive live preview, right?
You sure can!
awesome collection, thanks
This is fantastic, thanks for sharing Collis!
Some of these are pretty cool and they’re created in blender.
Exactly what I need. Thanks Collis!
It’s cool
