After this week’s security breach and account compromise on Tuts+ Premium, we have now completed patching the service to no longer store passwords in cleartext. We’ve brought the system back online and are monitoring it closely.
If you notice anything odd about the Tuts+ Premium site or service, or have any problems with your account, please contact Support to let us know. We’re watching closely to make sure everything is working as it should, that the security of the site is intact and that members are inconvenienced as little as possible from here on in.
With the system down for three days, we’re slowly catching up on PayPal and Moneybookers payment notifications. This may take a little while for them all to be resent and captured by the system. If your monthly payment was paid in the last few days and you experience any problems logging in, please contact Support.
With the site now back up and running, we’re pulling together the records for payment of refunds and then next after that is sorting out free member access.
If you are having trouble receiving the password reset email: first check your spam folder for emails from support@tutsplus.com. If you still have not received your password reset email, please contact Support.
Yesterday I posted up about the patch we’re working on to bring back the Tuts+ Premium service with better security measures, as well as our other responses to the situation, including a one month refund and two months free access.
The fixes I outlined in previous posts have been completed, and tested by our development team. Although we are pretty much ready to go live, I am erring on the side of caution and we will be doing another day of extensive testing. I realize this is an inconvenience for those of you waiting for the site to go back online, however, it is important to all of us to take the extra time and do it right. Thank you for your patience in the meantime, we really appreciate it.
There’s been a lot of tech news recently, with keynotes over the last few weeks from Apple, Microsoft and Google. The face of technology is slowly and relentlessly moving forward. And sometimes not that slowly.
Which Google announcement excited you the most? Updates to the Android operating system? Google’s own new Android devices – their tablet and that new media ball? Google Glass being worn by skydivers, bike riders and rope repellers? Or something totally different?
Are you planning to get any of this gear? Please vote in the poll, and give us the juicy details in the comments below.

Update #3: Free Access Information
Update #2: Tuts+ Premium Back Online and Patched
Update #1: More Info, Refunds, Free Access
Today we learned that the Tuts+ Premium server was compromised, and sensitive data including email addresses and passwords were accessed before we were able to detect and stop the unauthorized intrusion.
We have taken the site down while we ensure that account security is restored, and have reset the password for all account holders (active, inactive and expired). We will shortly email all account holders to let them know what has happened and what immediate actions should be taken.
Before we get to the details, I first want to apologise to all affected users. We are so sorry this has happened and will be working hard to mitigate and address the situation as much as possible. Continue Reading
