Submission Tip: Don’t Strip Native Functionality (TF)

Howdy talented authors! In this ongoing quest for more transparency, here I am, again, with more juicy tidbits about the reviewing process. More specifically, I’d like to address some issues that seem to be tripping up a lot of authors. In the interest of brevity, I won’t go too much into the issues themselves since they’re a single search away.

This time we look at stripping native functionality.

Some enterprising authors, recently, have started stripping out some native functionality from WordPress’ core. One fine example would be removing the wpautop filter to deal with formatting issues. While this may simplify the workflow for your template, newbie users can get confused with the change in the native UX.

With that in mind, we actively discourage users from making changes to core functionality like this. You’re still free to go mad with modifying the editor—just don’t modify core functions.

Chime in at the comments if you have any questions and thanks for reading!

“I strongly believe that all things will be produced in superior quality, and with greater ease, when each man works at a single occupation, in accordance with his natural gifts, and at the right moment, without meddling with anything else.” This week we meet Dragan Filov (DPremium) from AudioJungle and GraphicRiver.

If you’re an Envato marketplace author and would like to be interviewed for the blog, head over to this form. We’d love to hear from you.

Tell us a bit about yourself. Where are you from, what do you do for a living?

My name is Dragan Filov. I come from Macedonia, and I am a 25 year old music and nature enthusiast. The reason am describing myself with these words is the fact that since I was a kid I dedicated myself to music, playing some instruments, singing at our famous child music festivals and winning some awards, and little later because of my passion for nature I studied Computer Geology. So nowadays I combine my love for music, nature and computers by making music and doing trance mixes every month under the name A Night With Premium.

This is the very white workspace of ThemeForest author Guilherme Salum (DDStudios). His desk is white, his lamp is white, his Mac peripherals are white, his external hard drive is white, his iPad is white, his speakers are white.

The walls are white, too. In fact, he uses them as a whiteboard! I wonder if the ink is permanent. Besides using the walls as an outlet for his creativity, there is a chart for organizing his week, and some important reminders have been scribbled.
